Designed as a tribute to the inventors of cinema, the Boîte à Lumière lets you create silent films with ease. Imagine a short story, prompt it into the Boîte à Lumière — it will generate intertitles automatically. Action... it's in the box!
1. Write your scenario
Give your film a title, then describe the story in a few sentences — characters, actions, a twist. When your plot is ready, click Send scenario.
The interface generates intertitles in the style of 1920s silent cinema using an LLM. You can then edit each one individually before moving on. If you want to revise the scenario, click ← Edit scenario.
2. Film your shots
The film opens automatically with "FILMATTERS présente…" and your title card, and closes with "La suite au prochain épisode…". In between, the stages alternate between an intertitre and a shot to record.
Use ← → to navigate freely between shots and intertitles. Hold Space on a shot to start recording — release to stop. Each shot can last up to 10 seconds. You can go back to any shot and re-record it as many times as needed.
3. Export your film
When all your shots are recorded, click Export the film. The interface assembles everything into a 4:3 silent film and downloads it as an MP4, ready to screen.
